The Generator Loughborough CIC and Our Neighbourhood are teamed in a unique partnership between the private and voluntary sectors. We jointly own the OAC (The Old Art College) and the Generator Hall building on Frederick Street/Packe Street and bring our different skills and strengths to its development.
Latest updates
Our Neighbourhood has completed the work on The Old Art College, a four-storey brick building on Frederick Street. All floors are now fully open.
The ground floor houses Loughborough’s latest Independent coffee shop: Public, which features an onsite bakery and retail collaborations with Ohh Deer and Cotton Clara.
The upper floors are occupied by a number of creative businesses.

Good news!
The Generator Loughborough CIC has the Generator Hall on Packe Street. We submitted the project to be part of the Town Deal, with a bid for £1.6m for the structural work that is costly, largely unseen, but vital. It includes draining the basement, a new roof, heating and ventilation, new toilets and more.
We are pleased to say that the Town Deal Board has chosen the Generator as one of a number of projects to proceed to the next stage of preparing business cases. This is great news. Assuming success at this stage, we will make a start as soon as possible. We are also applying to the Architectural Heritage Fund and Arts Council England as well as The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
This will be PHASE 1 of the work and will allow us to open the ground floor for art focused events, exhibitions, festivals, workshops, performances, lectures and debates, as well as lunch clubs, Heritage events and school visits.
We envisage the Generator as the place for arts and cultural events serving all Loughborough communities and, with a free flow through to the Public café, as the meeting place for all who are concerned with creative / cultural activities.

Heritage open day
We took part in the national Heritage Open Days scheme this September, holding our event on Sunday 19th. Guided hard hat tours were available in groups of up to 12, hourly, from 10am until 4pm. The day was a great success, being very well attended, with many people sharing their own memories of working and studying at the site.
Thank you!
Thank you to the many people who completed Bright Culture’s Survey, we are grateful for such an enthusiastic response. We take it as a measure of how much so many Loughborough people want, indeed need, The Generator to open for business. We will keep you informed about our progress. We are so pleased at last to be able to say that work starts imminently and soon we will be welcoming you through the doors of The Generator.
